THE BLIND HORSE WINERY COMMEMORATES FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY & ACCOLADES WITH BIRTHDAY THEMED PARTY ON APRIL 20, LOOKS TO STRONG FUTURE IN AWARD-WINNING WINE

Birthday Party-themed Event Celebrates Strong Community Support From Local Businesses,
Patrons, Associates, Neighbors, and Wine Club Members

(Kohler, Wis.) April 3, 2019– The Blind Horse Winery marks its five year milestone with a festive celebration open to the public on Saturday, April 20 from Noon to 5pm. The Blind Horse team wishes to celebrate its 5th birthday alongside its winery patrons, local businesses, organizations, and wine club members that have supported the winery since 2014.

“For the age and size of our operation it is quite an accomplishment to not only be a thriving winery receiving notable awards each year but moreover to have the number of wine club members that we have,” said Thomas Nye, General Manager and Master Winemaker. “Our winery currently has nearly 1,000 members that span from 12 states. This is a larger membership than many longstanding west coast wineries and we wish to celebrate not only our loyal members with a special tribute on our birthday but also the community for their support. To all, we raise our glass.”

Open to the public, The Blind Horse Winery 5th Birthday Party will feature a casual afternoon gathering highlighted by an anniversary toast with an exclusive complimentary taste of the unreleased Blind Horse Sparkling Wine set for 2:30pm with birthday cake to follow. In appreciation for the outpouring of community and wine member support select Blind Horse wines will be discounted 25% – the Winery’s best discount offered to date. Attendees will enjoy live musical entertainment from Riley Haupt from Noon-4pm. Guests are invited to experience The Granary which features wine, spirits, small plates and craft cocktails for purchase. After 5pm, the festivities will carry into the evening with live music from Keith Pulvermacher in The Winery until 9pm and food and drink service in both The Granary and The Blind Horse Restaurant until 10pm.

Reasons to celebrate are plentiful. The Winery has milestones and memories to tribute including award-winning wines to showcase, a full calendar of events to host, a new venue to delight, charitable giving initiatives to report, and a unique wine release to anticipate.

The Blind Horse Winery has received more than 50 notable awards from regional, national and international organizations such as Wine is Wisconsin, Mid-American Wine Competition, Great American International Wine Competition, San Francisco International Wine Competition, and Finger Lakes International Wine Competition.

Memorable events are hosted throughout the year at The Blind Horse Restaurant & Winery. The venue hosts the Gourmet Food Truck Festivals with upwards of 20 food trucks and culinary vendors, Run with Angels 5K, Harvest Festival and Grape Stomping Competition, Hallo-wine Party and Blind Horse Christmas Market. New this year, The Winery will host a two-day Totally 80’s Fest in July. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, the Blind Horse Patio features al fresco dining and live music featuring various musical talents.

“There are just so many different ways to experience The Blind Horse. Every day we breathe our motto Eat. Drink. Live. From our chef-selected cuisine in the restaurant to award-winning wines poured by our experienced team throughout the property, to craft cocktails and pizza on the patio, live music and festivals, we are a unique, welcoming and fun destination throughout the year,” said Nye. “Each visit to The Blind Horse will elicit different memorable moments.”

A recent noteworthy milestone was the renovation and opening of The Granary in September 2018. An old barn on property was renovated with a rustic design that maintained the integrity of the farmstead by highlighting historic attributes of the building and accenting with chic artwork and barn-inspired décor and eclectic art. The Granary menu features craft distilled spirits and cocktails with gourmet ice, small plates and fondue, and a new Friday Fish Fry featuring Fresh Perch accompanied by $4 Old Fashioneds. The Granary Fish Fry will be available through May 10 and will resume in Fall. The Granary affords an additional venue at The Blind Horse open Thursday through Saturday evenings with live music on Fridays. The Granary is available for private and corporate events and gatherings.

To give back to the local community, The Blind Horse Restaurant and Winery Eat. Drink. Give. program has raised more than $75,000 which has been donated to select local community organization each year since 2014. This year’s Eat. Drink. Give. beneficiary is The Shaw Family Playground – the first fully accessible ADA playground in Sheboygan County Previous recipients of the Eat. Drink. Give. charitable giving program include REINS, Anchor of Hope, Sharon S. Richardson Center, and Love, Inc.

In the near future, The Blind Horse Winery plans to debut its first Sparkling Wine. The Blind Horse Winery differentiates itself from the other Wisconsin wineries by making wines with the best grapes sourced from California, however, the Sparkling Wine will join the award-winning Blind Horse Ice Wine, as a notable wine made from 100% Wisconsin-grown grapes. Both the Ice Wine – the first vintage won a Gold Medal at the Great American International Wine Competition – and Sparkling Wine are made with St. Pepin grapes from nearby Whitetail Vineyards in Plymouth, Wis. The Winery’s award winning Ice Wine, released annually since 2018, is currently the only wine of the 17 wines produced at The Blind Horse made with 100% Wisconsin grapes.

“Being a small winery affords us the opportunity to customize every style of wine we produce by controlling all elements of the process and hand-selecting the type of oak barrels the wine is aged in. That’s the art part of making wine,” said Nye. “It just so happens that Wisconsin grapes naturally have low tannin and high acidity which are the two characteristics of both ice wine and sparkling wine. The Blind Horse Sparkling Wine will be a big, big wine for Wisconsin.”
